Big Hearted Business (un)-Conference 2014
470 amazing women and 30 awesome men all jammed into The Regal Ballroom in Northcote Melbourne with Clare Bowditch, Kemi Nekvapil, Fabian Dattner, Danielle La Porte, Missy Higgins, Joost Bakker, Beci Orpin and Pip Lincolne (to name a few). The result was smiles, laughter, tears, new friendships, the sharing of knowledge and a newfound sense of self. Yes this was Big Hearted Business (un)-conference 2014!
Can you tell I had a bloody GOOD time? First and foremost it was the most welcoming event I have ever been to. Clare and her team created a community from the moment attendees walked in the door. They encouraged people to talk to each other and make the most of the two short days we had together. People stayed off their phones for the most part and even chatted in toilet lines.
The food was all by Joost Bakker which meant not only was it nutrient dense and delicious but it was organic, vegetarian and waste-free. Everything came in reusable jars — whether it was soup, a morning smoothie or an amazing salad.
The speakers gifted the room with their experiences, truths and knowledge. Their generosity was enormous and at many times the connection in the room of 500 was intimate. My personal favourite was Fabian Dattner who spoke (amongst other things) of intuition and the choices we as women make in our lives. A few of her comments initially stung a little, but I love a challenge; and yes she got me thinking about a lot of things I struggle with in my own life (to be discussed in another post). Fabian was celebrating her 60th Birthday on the day and I am so pleased she decided to spend it with us. On the second morning Danielle La Porte rose the roof off the ballroom and urged us to achieve clarity on how we want to feel, in order to craft the life and business we want. And lastly, Missy Higgins’ closing keynote was warm, honest and touching. She is an amazing lady.
I have a lot to think about and a lot of people to contact after my two Big Hearted days, but I would recommend this community and conference to anyone trying to build a creative business in Australia. It reinforced my voice, my worth, my story; not only from listening to the speakers but from spending 2 days with 500 other people who get it.
